Leg injury sidelines Jorge Valdivia

SAO PAULO -- Chile playmaker Jorge Valdivia has a muscle injury that will keep him from playing the next few matches with Brazilian club Palmeiras.

Tests conducted Monday showed that the right leg injury sustained in the 2-1 loss to Sao Paulo will sideline him for Wednesday's Brazilian league match against Sport.

Doctors also said that Valdivia has a fractured nose, but the injury is not serious and will not require surgery.

Valdivia left Sunday's match in the 18th minute complaining of dizziness after being hit in the face. He hadn't played in nearly a month because of transfer negotiations that eventually failed.

Valdivia helped Chile reach the second round of the World Cup in Brazil earlier this year.
