Ex-Fulham boss Felix Magath had curious practices with players

The fallout from Felix Magath's sacking at Fulham is continuing, with some of the tales emerging from the Craven Cottage club as curious as they are alarming.

Reports in one Sunday newspaper in the UK suggested Fulham midfielder Scott Parker personally paid the fines of two young players who were fined 10,000 pounds each by Magath after falling foul of his strict rules.

Ex-Fulham midfielder Danny Murphy confirmed a bizarre story about the treatment the German tactician ordered defender Brede Hangeland to undergo following an injury last season.

"He gave him a lump of cheese, soaked in alcohol and told him to leave it on overnight," Murphy told the BBC, as he revealed the treatment Magath enforced on the Norwegian defender to treat a thigh injury last season.

"The club doctor, who I know well and has now moved on [from the club], didn't think it was the best idea, so I'm not sure if Brede did it.

"It is just one of many ridiculous, sad stories that we have heard about Felix that has ultimately cost him his job.

"It has also put Fulham in a world of trouble now because all the experienced players they had last season were desperate to leave and did so. They are in trouble now."

Fulham are currently bottom of the Championship division, after Magath failed to guide them to a victory this season before his departure from the club last Thursday.
