Neymar 7/10, Alphonse Areola 4/10 as PSG drop first league points at Bordeaux

Goals from Neymar and Kylian Mbappe were spoiled by Bordeaux, who stormed back to end PSG's 14-game win streak to start the season.

Paris Saint-Germain dropped points for the first time in Ligue 1 this season after Bordeaux held them to a 2-2 draw at Matmut Atlantique on Sunday.

Neymar and Kylian Mbappe both scored to give Thomas Tuchel's men leads but Jimmy Briand and Andreas Cornelius twice pegged them back to end PSG's winning start to the campaign at 14.

Positives

First and foremost, despite losing their winning run, PSG remain unbeaten and can still target an entire Ligue 1 term without defeat after getting another potentially tough away day out of the way. If you had offered the French champions a win over Liverpool and a draw in Bordeaux at the start of the week, they would have taken it.

Apart from that, Tuchel having so many of his best players available after such a mammoth collective effort against Liverpool was another plus. Neymar and Mbappe, having played through the pain barrier in midweek, stepped forward again in Bordeaux and both found the net.

Negatives

PSG will feel that they should have had at least one penalty when Neymar was fouled before half-time and referee Frank Schneider did not even call for video assisted refereeing (VAR) to be consulted.

Also, both Briand and Cornelius' goals were avoidable from Les Parisiens' point of view -- particularly the Dane's header that Alphonse Areola arguably could have kept out.

Manager rating out of 10

6 -- Tuchel concocted a starting XI that was strong in attack and solid in defence but questionable in midfield. It showed as PSG twice took the lead but allowed Bordeaux to equalise both times.

Player ratings (1-10; 10 = best. Players introduced after 70 minutes get no rating)

GK Alphonse Areola, 4 -- It was not a disastrous outing, but he was well beaten by Briand and arguably should have done better with Cornelius' effort -- the first headed goal conceded by PSG in Ligue 1 this season and Bordeaux's first scored.

DF Thilo Kehrer, 5 -- Booked in the first half, he was not at the same level he was at against Liverpool, but neither were many of his teammates.

DF Thiago Silva (c), 6 -- Solider than the rest of his fellow defenders, he was still not at the same heroic level he was at midweek.

DF Stanley N'Soki, 5 -- Introduced in Presnel Kimpembe's place, he was not out of his depth but has equally looked better at other times this season.

MF Dani Alves, 6 -- His smooth return to action after a lengthy injury layoff continued with an assist for Neymar's opener as part of an attack-minded display that finished after 67 minutes.

MF Marquinhos, 7 -- Another good showing in defensive midfield that suggests he could finally be ready to adopt the role more regularly.

MF Julian Draxler, 6 -- Perhaps not the best central midfield partner for Marquinhos on the night but he still teed Mbappe up for PSG's second goal and allowed Marco Verratti to take a breather.

MF Juan Bernat, 6 -- Another solid performance made all the more impressive by the fact that he, like Marquinhos, was unable to train on Friday due to fatigue after the Liverpool win.

FW Angel Di Maria, 5 -- Retained in the starting XI despite a difficult midweek outing, he looked fried when he left the pitch with less than 10 minutes to go and arguably did not give Tuchel enough to warrant his start. Missed a great chance and also hit the bar.

FW Kylian Mbappe, 6 -- He scored in the second half and immediately appealed for a substitution, he was kept on and no doubt feels battered and bruised after an intense week.

FW Neymar, 7 -- Scored the opener and was denied what should have been a penalty, he took a knock early in the second half and immediately came off.

Substitutes

FW Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, 6 -- Utilised for over 30 minutes when Neymar came off, he held the ball up well and was direct at times.

MF Marco Verratti, 5 -- Given just over 20 minutes as a replacement for Alves, he still found time to pick up a booking.

FW Christopher Nkunku, N/R -- A late replacement for Di Maria, he could have done with a bit more time to influence proceedings.
