PSG, Bordeaux, Marseille progress to Coupe de la Ligue quarterfinals

Winger Angel Di Maria came off the bench to set up a late winner for striker Edinson Cavani as defending champion Paris Saint-Germain beat Saint-Etienne 1-0 to reach the Coupe de la Liga quarterfinals on Wednesday.

Apart from hitting the crossbar with a scissor-kick in the first half, PSG top scorer Zlatan Ibrahimovic had a quiet game and was replaced by Di Maria, who went close with a free kick in the 77th minute.

With four minutes remaining, Di Maria delivered a brilliant dipping pass over the defense and Cavani volleyed expertly past reserve goalkeeper Jessy Moulin despite being slightly off balance.

Elsewhere, Lyon topped Tours 2-1 at the Stade des Lumieres.

Claudio Beauvue converted a penalty seven minutes before the break. Birahima Tandia levelled the score in the 72nd before Claudio Beauvue collected his brace, and the victory, for Lyon just five minutes from time.

Monaco crashed out after a 3-0 defeat to Bordeaux at the Nouveau Stade de Bordeaux.

Diego Rolan and Henri Saivet added to Adam Ounas' 16th-minute opener to give the home side comfortable passage to the tournament's quarterfinal stage over their Ligue 1 rivals.

Marseille advanced with a 3-2 victory over Bourg-Peronnas.

Bouna Sarr opened the scoring in the 13th minute, only to see Lakdar Boussaha equalise 14 minutes later.

The match stayed even at the break. But Lucas Ocampos and Remy Cabella placed Marseille well in front with goals in the 50th and 75th minute, before Boussaha rounded out the scoring in second-half stoppage time.
