PSG reach quarterfinals behind Cavani, Cabaye; Monaco survive

Paris St. Germain reached the quarterfinals of the Coupe de France by beating Nantes 2-0 at Parc des Princes on Wednesday night.

Edinson Cavani opened the scoring for the reigning French champions in the 18th minute and Yohan Cabaye doubled their lead in the 34th.

Monaco had earlier held off the challenge of last year's runners-up Rennes to progress as 3-1 winners at Stade Louis II.

Almamy Toure (nine) and Wallace (11) gave the principality club a two-goal advantage, which was halved by Pedro Henrique in the 34th minute.

Rennes did have chances to peg their hosts back but Anthony Martial had the last word with a penalty in the 67th minute.

Fourth-tier Yzeure almost pulled off the shock of the round but Christophe Mandanne's stoppage-time equaliser saved the day for top-flight side Guingamp.

The minnows from Auvergne took the lead through Francis Dady N'Goye in the 61st minute and looked ready to oust the holders and claim a famous scalp as full time approached.

But Mandanne struck three minutes into time added on at Stade de Bellevue before notching again in extra-time with Jeremy Pied's later goal sealing a 3-1 away triumph.

The draw for the last eight was performed shortly after Wednesday's matches concluded and pitted PSG and Monaco against each other in the capital.

Third-tier Boulogne will host St. Etienne while the lowest-ranked club remaining in the competition, Concarneau of the fourth tier, will welcome Guingamp.

Metz and Brest face off in the remaining last-16 match on Thursday night, with the winner set to entertain Ligue 2 outfit Auxerre in the quarterfinals.
