Lorient, Nice tumble out of Coupe de France with early losses

Lorient were humbled by Avranches as the Coupe de France last-64 stage got under way on Saturday.

The Ligue 1 side lost 1-0 to their hosts from the semi-professional National league, with midfielder Maguette Diongue scoring the only goal after 59 minutes.

Avranches lost Ivorian defender Ali Keita to a late red card but clung to their lead.

Victory at the tiny Stade Rene Fenouillere was followed by a mass pitch invasion:

Lorient were not the only top-flight side to flounder at the first hurdle, with Nice joining them in bowing out as they slumped 2-0 against Ligue 2 side Valenciennes, who were relegated from the elite tier last May.

Adama Coulibaly headed Valenciennes ahead after 11 minutes, and Opa Nguette scored the second goal shortly before half-time.

In an all-Ligue 1 cup tussle, Bastia beat visitors Lille 2-0 with a pair of early goals from Floyd Ayite, who scored in the fifth and 24th minutes.

Nantes saw off Club Franciscain 4-0, with goals from Lucas Deaux, Valentin Rongier and Oswaldo Vizcarrondo, plus an own goal from Florian Narcissot.

Reims fended off Saint-Maur Lusitanos 3-1, as Diego, Gaetan Charbonnier and Nicolas De Preville fended off the possibility of an upset. Sitou Ayi had briefly brought Saint-Maur Lusitanos level early in the second half.

The introduction of Tunisian midfielder Fabien Camus triggered a 3-0 win for Evian against the amateurs of Bobigny, as he scored in the 66th minute, shortly after coming off the bench, to break the deadlock. Danish team-mates Nicki Bille Nielsen and Daniel Wass added later goals.

Among other matches not involving Ligue 1 sides, Tours beat Le Mans 3-1, Parisian outfit Red Star edged out Arles-Avignon 2-1, and a single goal earned Brest victory over Laval.
