France's Patrice Evra: England are good enough to win Euro 2016

France full-back Patrice Evra believes that England are a better team than they have been made out to be and would prove a difficult quarterfinal opponent for the Euro 2016 hosts.

France will play either England or Iceland in the last eight after Didier Deschamps' side came from behind to beat 10-man Republic of Ireland 2-1 in Lyon on Sunday.

England have come in for criticism after finishing second to Wales in Group B but Roy Hodsgon's men will still start as favourites when they take on Iceland in the round of 16 in Nice on Monday.

Juventus defender Evra, 35, believes that if England do make it through then they are more than capable of ending France's title ambitions in next Sunday's quarterfinal match at the Stade de France.

"There's not any average team," Evra told reporters. "We can see today -- that's why I congratulate all the Irish players. It was a tough game for us.

"No, England is not an average team. People, they love to criticise. But when I will face England I won't face an average team. I will face a very good team -- a team that can win the tournament."

Evra said that England often had great players in their squad but that they suffer from the pressure that local media put on the team.

And the former Manchester United full-back maintains that it is not always to easy to replicate club form at international level.

"Of course it's different," he added. "It's difficult when you play for your country because everyone expects you to win -- to play every time the best game. And it's not easy.

"I didn't have any problem with the journalists in England but they put a lot of pressure [on their national team] and we've got the same problem here with France.

"That's why sometimes it can affect the team and sometimes not."
