Mathieu Valbuena keen to link up with Benzema for France at Euro 2016

Mathieu Valbuena says "anything is possible" in football so he would have "no problem" playing alongside Karim Benzema for France, despite the Real Madrid striker being accused of blackmailing his former teammate.

The allegations are related to a sex videotape featuring the Lyon midfielder which have seen Benzema suspended indefinitely from the national team.

But Valbuena said he wouldn't protest if the pair were selected together in France's squad for Euro 2016.

"Of course [I would play with Benzema]... anything is possible. There's no problem," he told TF1.

Valbuena, 31, wasn't selected in France's most recent squad but hopes that he can convince coach Didier Deschamps of his merits in the second half of the Ligue 1 season.

"It was a shock at first and I found it hard to accept, but I've come to understand it since then," he said. "I spoke with the coach and understood his decision.

"If I have a good run for my club, I don't see why I won't return to the France team."

Valbuena, who has earned 50 international caps since 2010 while scoring eight goals, was in France's Euro 2012 squad but failed to appear in any of the matches.
