Ex-Man United, Brazil midfielder Kleberson joins Ft. Lauderdale Strikers

Former World Cup winner and Manchester United midfielder Kleberson has signed with the Fort Lauderdale Strikers of the North American Soccer League, the club announced on Monday.

Kleberson, 36, was a standout player in Brazil's 2002 World Cup triumph in Korea and Japan, where he provided an assist in the final for Ronaldo, who is now a co-owner of the Strikers.

The Brazilian then made a €8.6 million move to United from Atletico Paranaense in the summer of 2003, but failed to impress at Old Trafford before leaving for Besiktas in 2005.

Per team policy, the terms of his deal with Fort Lauderdale were not disclosed.

Said Strikers head coach and general manager Caio Zanardi of the signing: "We are delighted to have a player on our team with the quality and winning mentality of Kléberson. He is an experienced leader and a true professional. We expect him to be an example for his teammates on and off the field."

Kleberson played for the Indy Eleven, also of NASL, last year.
