Montella: Cuadrado not moving to Chelsea (0:42)

Fiorentina head coach Vincenzo Montella denies Juan Cuadrado is set for a move to Premier League side Chelsea. (0:42)

Fiorentina coach Vincenzo Montella insists his club want to keep hold of Chelsea target Juan Cuadrado, but admitted they have their hands tied if their valuation for the winger is met.

Cuadrado, 26, signed a new contract last summer, which included a buyout clause worth 35 million euros.

The Viola are not entertaining any offers below that figure -- as Chelsea have reportedly discovered -- but should that mark be reached, Montella says there is little they can do.

"He's got a buyout clause that he signed with the club, but if any club comes in and pays that, he will leave even in the final days of the transfer window," Montella told a news conference prior to Sunday night's 1-1 draw with Roma. "That is, of course, if he wants to leave.

"Sadly that's the way it is. For me and for the club, though, Cuadrado is a player who we cannot do without."

The Colombia international helped Fiorentina earn a draw with Roma on Sunday, edging them ever closer to third spot and qualification for the Champions League next season.

Montella, however, felt his side deserved to come away from the game with more than a point.

"We gave everything and it was a fantastic performance against a top side," he told Sky Sport Italia.

"I think in terms of intensity and the quality of our play, we deserved to win. A coach has got to be happy to see the kind of desire to win and defiance we showed tonight.

"I'm proud of these lads, even if I'm a bit disappointed because it would have been a crucial victory."

Fiorentina picked up a point thanks to a goal from Mario Gomez -- his third in a week after netting two in the Coppa Italia.

"Gomez is coming on leaps and bounds," Montella said. "He's finding continuity in what he does best, which is scoring goals. He's an important resource and he can do even better. I think having a forward like Mario is fundamental because we create more as a team and so we need somebody with his characteristics to finish things off."

Montella, meanwhile, has signed a new player to improve his attack, with Alberto Gilardino arriving from Guangzhou Evergrande on loan until the end of the season.
