Brazil climb five spots to fourth in FIFA World Ranking, Argentina stay top

Brazil's victories in 2018 World Cup qualifying this month have lifted them from ninth to fourth in the FIFA World Ranking, with Argentina keeping hold of their place at the top.

As reported by ESPN FC last week, Brazil's 3-0 victory over Ecuador and 2-1 win against Colombia -- who also sit joint-fourth -- earlier in September has seen them make the biggest move in the top 20 after the month's global rounds of World Cup qualifiers.

Brazil were playing their first games under new coach Tite, who succeeded Dunga in the summer.

Belgium remain in second, edging third-placed Germany, who have climbed one spot in the rankings.

Euro 2016 semifinalists Wales have returned to the top 10, ahead of Spain, England and Italy, who sit 11th, 12th and 13th respectively.

Mexico, meanwhile, lead the CONCACAF nations in 15th spot, with Costa Rica 18th and United States rising four places up to 22nd.

Ivory Coast are Africa's highest-ranked team in 34th, while Iran lead Asia's nations in 37th.

Kosovo's 1-1 draw against Finland -- in their first ever World Cup qualifier -- lifts FIFA's newest member to 168th.
