Uruguay's Luis Suarez appeal due

The Uruguay Football Federation will present its appeal in the Luis Suarez bite case before the FIFA appeals committee on Friday, according to Uruguay's Ovacion.

The 14-member committee is chaired by Larry Mussenden of Bermuda and is a separate body to the FIFA's disciplinary committee. The appeal board's deputy chairman is Argentina's Fernando Mitjans and it has one European member, Austria's Leo Windtner.

Barcelona are set to officially begin their bid to buy Suarez when a club delegation meets Liverpool chief executive Ian Ayre in London on Wednesday.

Earlier this week, Suarez admitted biting Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini during Uruguay's World Cup group game against the Italians. Suarez apologised on Twitter.

The apology came two days after it emerged that Suarez -- who was banned for nine Uruguay matches and from all football activity for four months -- had denied biting his opponent in a submission to FIFA's disciplinary committee.

His post on the social networking website on Monday acknowledged that he had bitten Chiellini, apologised to the defender and promised that an incident of that sort would never happen again.

Ovacion reported that the Uruguay federation is seeking to soften the Suarez ban, and cites recent FIFA's appeals committee decisions to indicate that there is no precedent that would create any expectation for changes.

Earlier this year, the FIFA appeals committee suspended sanctions on Uruguay club Sud America, which was at the centre of an illicit "bridge transfers" case. Similarly, this past April, Barcelona also appealed and had its transfer ban suspended.
