          U.S. makes five changes as Brad Guzan and Kyle Beckerman start

          Jurgen Klinsmann made five changes to the United States' lineup ahead of Tuesday night's must-win World Cup qualifier against Guatemala.

          The front line of Clint Dempsey and Bobby Wood is joined by Gyasi Zardes, and there were major alterations behind them following Friday's 2-0 defeat.

          Kyle Beckerman and Graham Zusi start in midfield, replacing Mix Diskerud and the injured Alejandro Bedoya, and DeAndre Yedlin drops back into his more comfortable position as a full-back.

          Steve Birnbaum of D.C. United also comes into the defense for his first World Cup qualifying appearance in place of Omar Gonzalez, and Brad Guzan takes over for Tim Howard in goal.

          Geoff Cameron, Edgar Castillo and Michael Bradley also retain their spots from last week.

          Klinsmann had said early last week he could platoon Howard and Guzan, and each keeper has now started one of the two games against Guatemala.

          There's no clear leader between the two, and both have struggled in the Premier League this season. Howard lost his starting spot at Everton and has announced he will move to the Colorado Rapids this summer. Guzan is starting again, but Aston Villa are in last place and are almost certain to be relegated.

          Sporting Kansas City's Zusi was added to the squad on Sunday, as was 17-year-old Christian Pulisic from Borussia Dortmund.

          Zardes came in as a substitute on Friday but now is pulled into the starting lineup. The Galaxy winger has appeared in 10 straight games, the longest active streak for the U.S.

          Carlos Ruiz and Hamilton Lopez are with Guatemala but not in the starting lineup after dealing with legal and visa issues that jeopardized their availability.

          The U.S. has never lost a World Cup qualifier in Columbus, Ohio, the site of Tuesday's game.
