Brazil media slam Argentina for CONMEBOL qualifier postponement

Sections of the Brazilian media have criticised the one-day postponement of the Selecao's CONMEBOL World Cup qualifier clash in Argentina due to heavy rains, accusing the hosts of being "scared" to face Dunga's side.

Brazilian daily Lance! ran a cover that said: "Tell me what you feel? Fear!"

Another Brazil media site, UOL Esporte, also questioned the Argentine Football Association decision, saying that "matches have been played under worse conditions at the Monumental [stadium]," pointing to the Oct. 13 FIFA date in Quito, in which Ecuador beat Bolivia 2-0 under intense rain.

Lance! blasted AFA for the cancellation via its cover, despite including a report from Brazil strength coach Fabio Mahseredjian, who said the Selecao had no issue with waiting one more night to play the match.

The duel between the two South American giants is set for the same venue on Friday at 7 p.m. ET with AFA indicating that the pitch is in order.

Argentina have experienced a poor start to their qualifying campaign after reaching the 2014 World Cup final in Brazil.

Argentina goalkeeper Sergio Romero said the team are very motivated for Friday's match and have done their best to prepare.

"Against Brazil it is always a great match, beautiful to play," Romero said. "We hope that we can keep the competition at top level.

"They have great players who are some of the best in the world. I saw Neymar, and we know what a great class of player he is. It is like speaking about Kun [Sergio Aguero], Pipa [Gonzalo Higuain] or Leo [Messi]. But we have great defenders and we will be ready to control them."

The Albiceleste have taken just one point from two games ahead of their clash with rival Brazil, and are without stars Lionel Messi, Sergio Aguero and Carlos Tevez.

The Selecao, for their part, are looking for their second consecutive win in qualifying, and will enjoy the return of star forward Neymar, who was suspended for the first two qualifiers for his actions during the 2015 Copa America.

Brazil have never missed a World Cup, and Argentina last missed out in 1970.
