Brazil's Alvis out of World Cup (hamstring)

Brazil midfielder Andressa Alves will be out of the rest of the Women's World Cup after suffering a left hamstring injury during training on Monday.

Brazil plays Italy on Tuesday in the last round of Group C, looking for a spot in the round-of-16.

The Brazilian Football Confederation said that the Barcelona player "left the training with sharp pain in the left hamstring area". An MRI confirmed the muscle injury.

Alves took to Instagram to confirm the severity of the injury.

"It's difficult to write anything right now. I suffered an injury during training, a hamstring injury, and I'm out of the World Cup. Without a doubt, this is the worst day in my football career. I can't believe this happened when it was my best moment," she wrote.

Alves is the third injured player in the Brazil squad, after Erika and Fabi Simoes.
