Australia's Alen Stajcic urges Caitlin Foord to realise her potential 'to be one of the best players in the world'

Caitlin Foord scored a hat trick in the Matildas' 5-0 victory over Chile at McDonald Jones Stadium.
FFA CEO David Gallop has announced the #GETONSIDE campaign to help Australia's bid for the 2023 Women's World Cup.

Coach Alen Stajcic says Caitlin Foord "could be one of the best players in the world," following the forward's three-goal performance in the Matildas' 5-0 victory over Chile on Tuesday in Newcastle.

The Sydney FC attacker netted the first hat trick of her seven-year international career and set up another goal as the Aussies made a welcome return to form following their surprise 3-2 defeat against the world No. 39 on Saturday.

Foord was instrumental in Australia's stunning second-half performance...

Nigeria still AWCON favourites, but face tougher task than normal

Only seven countries, headlined by the USA and Germany, have been to every FIFA Women's World Cup since its inception in 1991, and Nigeria is a member of that rarefied company.

But the Super Falcons are the only member of that elite group yet to qualify for the 2019 edition in France. And by the looks of it, this will be the least straightforward of their journeys to reach the showpiece tournament.

Three countries will qualify from Africa in the coming weeks, namely the three top finishers...

Chloe Logarzo, Lisa De Vanna agree absent Mary Fowler 'would be a great addition' to the Matildas

FFA CEO David Gallop has announced the #GETONSIDE campaign to help Australia's bid for the 2023 Women's World Cup.

Established Matildas squad members hope talented x-factor teenager Mary Fowler won't be lost to Australian football and will soon be back in their midst.

The squad for this month's two friendlies against Chile in Penrith and Newcastle gathered in Sydney on Monday, but the 15-year-old Fowler wasn't there.

Striker Fowler, after making her senior international debut earlier this year, is regarded as one of the great emerging talents of Australian football but is also still eligible to represent the...

Scotland women reach first-ever World Cup after beating Albania to top group

Scotland qualified for the Women's World Cup for the first time in the country's history with a 2-1 victory over Albania on Tuesday.

Jane Ross scored the second goal that sealed top spot for Scotland in European qualifying Group 2 above Switzerland.

Germany, Norway and Sweden also qualified on Tuesday for the finals next year.

Fifteen of the 24 slots have been filled for the June 7-July 7 tournament in France.

France were also the hosts when Scotland's men last qualified for a major tournament,...

Australia to face Chile twice at home in prep for Women's World Cup

The Australian national women's soccer team will return to action on home soil in November with matches against Chile in Penrith and Newcastle.

The matches against the world No. 39 and recent Copa America runners-up have been arranged to help the Matildas prepare for next year's FIFA Women's World Cup.

Aside from Brazil, it's been more than 20 years since Australia faced South American opposition and coach Alen Stajcic was keen to end that run.

"We haven't had a lot of experience playing against...
