Confederations Cup in 2021 won't be held in Qatar - Jerome Valcke

Along with the announcement over the 2022 FIFA World Cup and decision to move the 2023 African Nations Cup to June, FIFA announced on Wednesday that the 2021 Confederations Cup will not be held in Qatar.

The tournament usually takes place a year before the World Cup in the host country and pits the World Cup hosts against the current World Cup holders, along with the winners of the six confederation tournaments such as the European Championships, Copa America and the Asian Cup.

However, as FIFA discuss a proposal to start the 2022 World Cup on Nov. 26 and end on Dec. 23, 2022, because of fears over Qatar's climate, FIFA secretary general Jerome Valcke insisted that the Confederations Cup would not be held in the Gulf state.

Indeed, Valcke claimed it would take place "in an Asian country" but added that the host has not yet been decided.
