Real Madrid's semifinal clash with Cruz Azul in the FIFA Club World Cup has been switched to Marrakech from Rabat due to the waterlogged pitch at the Complexe Sportif Prince Moulay Abdellah.
Saturday's quarterfinal between Cruz Azul and Western Sydney Wanderers was played in torrential conditions at the Rabat stadium, with pools of standing water on the pitch making life tough for the players.
Now FIFA has announced that Tuesday's match between Madrid and Cruz Azul has changed venues.
A FIFA statement read: "Due to difficult pitch conditions at the Complexe Sportif Prince Moulay Abdellah Rabat, the FIFA Organising Committee has decided after consultation with the Local Organising Committee (LOC) to play match 4 (Cruz Azul v Real Madrid) in Marrakech and not in Rabat as previously scheduled. The match will kick-off on Tuesday Dec. 16 at 1930 local time.''
European champions Madrid are looking to extend a 20-match winning streak in all competitions, while the other semifinal pits Auckland City against San Lorenzo in Marrakech on Wednesday.
