FIFA announces officials for Club World Cup in United Arab Emirates

Real Madrid are among the teams competing in the FIFA Club World Cup UAE 2017.

FIFA's Referees Committee has announced the match officials for December's Club World Cup in the United Arab Emirates, with Germany's Felix Brych the most high-profile European name and the United States' Mark Geiger among those who will run the VAR system.

The Club World Cup kicks off on Dec. 6, with the final at the Zayed Sports City Stadium in Abu Dhabi on Dec. 16.

FIFA is exploring expanding the Club World Cup to 24 teams from June 2021, a member of the ruling council said on Monday.

The revamped tournament could open with three groups of eight teams and be played over 18 days. The proposals to enlarge the existing annual Club World Cup were outlined during a meeting in India last week but disclosed only on Monday by FIFA Council member Reinhard Grindel.
