UEFA punishes Feyenoord for racist incident in Europa League

UEFA has ordered Feyenoord to play their next European match without fans as punishment for racism and fined the Dutch club €50,000.

Feyenoord were charged with racist behaviour by fans who threw an inflatable banana on the pitch during a tense Europa League last-32 match against Roma.

In the same game in February, Feyenoord fans also set off and threw fireworks and objects and blocked stairways. Feyenoord was fined an additional €50,000 for that and will have to play another match behind closed doors if there is another incident in the next two years.

UEFA also announced on Friday that Napoli will have to play their next European game with part of the stadium closed to fans and the Italian club were also fined €80,000 after their fans' misconduct.

In another UEFA disciplinary decision, Bayern Munich coach Pep Guardiola only received a warning for wearing a T-shirt to a Champions League news conference that supported a campaign to investigate the death of a journalist at last year's World Cup.
