Nuno Espirito Santo returns to Porto as head coach

Porto have announced that former Valencia and Rio Ave manager Nuno Espirito Santo has returned to the club as their new head coach.

Former goalkeeper Nuno spent three years at the club between 2007-2010, winning 13 trophies.

Nuno has signed a two-year contract with Porto, who finished third in 2015-16, succeeding Jose Peseiro as manager.

He said on the club's official website: "This is a moment of great excitement, joy and honour, to be here and feel that I was the person FC Porto trusted to be the coach for the next season.

"I believe this isn't the time for promises, but for guarantees. I'm someone who follows convictions, and I firmly believe that we can win all the time. I assure all the fans that, with work and union, we can get we all want, which is winning."

He added: "From now on, there's only one thing on my mind: work. I'm already working, along with the rest of the staff, aware that the 28th will signal the start, as our players return, the men we trust and believe in. By then, we'll help them recover that feeling of being Porto.

"To be Porto is to win, it's nothing but walking out of the stadium with the certainty that you did everything you could and you won."
