Cologne CEO Jorg Schmadtke facing DFB ruling over referee 'eggheads' jibe

Jorg Schmadtke is set to appear before the German FA (DFB) court on Tuesday after the Cologne CEO labelled referees officiating their match against Werder Bremen as "Eierkoppe" -- eggheads.

Cologne had their fair share of trouble with referees in the first half of the Bundesliga season. In the penultimate match of 2015, the Billy Goats' opponents Werder Bremen were awarded a controversial penalty by referee Guido Winkelmann close to the half-time whistle.

Although Anthony Ujah failed to double the host's lead from the spot, Schmadkte raged at half-time and labelled the referee quartet as "eggheads" before being sent to the stands.

In the aftermath, the former Bundesliga goalkeeper was fined €6,000 by the DFB's jurisdiction for the insult. But Schmadkte did not pay the fine, stating that "Eierkoppe" in the Rhineland region is not an insult.

Schmadkte said to Sky in December: "Where I come from, the Rhineland, "Eierkopp" is not an insult in any way. I would say other things if I were to insult someone."

Schmadkte will now appear before the DFB court on Tuesday, when judge Hans E. Lorenz will reach a final verdict on the controversial egghead question.

"I take things as they come now," Schmadkte told kicker.
