Everton's Yannick Bolasie hoping to follow in footsteps of Thierry Henry

Yannick Bolasie says he was inspired to take the No. 14 shirt at Everton after growing up idolising Thierry Henry.

Bolasie, 27, joined Everton from Crystal Palace last week for a reported £25 million and came off the bench to make his debut for the club in the 2-1 win against West Brom on Saturday.

The DR Congo international says he hopes to follow in the footsteps of Henry, who enjoyed huge success while wearing the same number during his time at Arsenal.

"[As a kid] I'd watch Thierry Henry taking on defenders for Arsenal and that's what I wanted to do," Bolasie told Everton's club magazine.

"Taking on defenders is what gives me a buzz. I've played as a winger all of my professional life and I'm looking forward to doing that now in front of the Everton fans."

Bolasie could be in line for a first Everton start on Tuesday when the Premier League club take on Yeovil Town in the EFL Cup.
