Phil Jagielka has signed an extended contract with Everton to run until the summer of 2018.
The Toffees captain, who has won 36 caps for England, had two years remaining on his previous contract and has been rewarded for a fine season at the heart of the defence.
"It's always nice to feel wanted," Jagielka told the club's official website. "Being rewarded with the extra year gives me that motivation to keep striving to get better and to keep going for as long as possible.
"It wasn't the longest negotiations ever -- it only took a couple of minutes rather than hours. I love it here, I want to stay here and thankfully enough the club felt the same.
"The contract was drawn up and I popped back after a little holiday to sign it. Now I look forward to getting back for preseason."
Jagielka has proved an enormously popular figure at Goodison Park since joining Everton from Sheffield United for £4 million eight years ago.
The 32-year-old, who succeeded Phil Neville as captain in 2013, has made nearly 300 appearances for the club and was named Everton's player of the season last term.
