Russia coach Leonid Slutsky hints at resignation after thrashing by Wales

Russia coach Leonid Slutsky indicated that he would quit his post after watching his side crash out of Euro 2016 following a 3-0 defeat to Wales.

Goals from Aaron Ramsey, Neil Taylor and Gareth Bale left Russia bottom of Group B on a dismal night in Toulouse.

Slutsky, who steered them to qualification after taking over from Fabio Capello, told a TV interviewer: "First and foremost, we need to change the head coach. I think it's the Russian FA who needs to answer those questions."

In quotes reported on the official Euro 2016 website, he said: "After a tournament like this, you need someone else in charge.

"I'd like to apologise to the supporters. We were poor today, and we deserved to lose the game. We were bad in every area."

Slutsky, who is still the coach of Russian club CSKA Moscow, saw his side grab a late equaliser to begin their campaign with a point against England.

But they lost their second game 2-1 to Slovakia before the humiliating result against Wales sealed an ignominious exit.
