Croatia leave out Barcelona youngster Alen Halilovic; Dejan Lovren omitted

Croatia coach Ante Cacic has left out Barcelona teenager Alen Halilovic from his 23-man squad for Euro 2016.

Halilovic, 19, was in the provisional squad but is one of four players -- along with goalkeeper Dominik Livakovic, defender Duje Caleta-Car, midfielder Domagoj Antolic -- who failed to make the final cut.

Liverpool centre-back Dejan Lovren was also omitted from selection due to disciplinary reasons, having been accused of refusing to warm up in a friendly against Hungary in March.

Veteran midfielder Darijo Srna will take the captain's armband, while Real Madrid's Luka Modric and Barca playmaker Ivan Rakitic will string the passes in midfield. Juventus striker Mario Mandzukic will lead the line in attack.

Croatia have a record of two appearances in the quarterfinals at the European Championship and will be hoping for a better showing, having been knocked out in the group stages four years ago.

Cacic's side are in Group D alongside reigning champions Spain, the Czech Republic and Turkey. They open their campaign in Paris on June 12 against Turkey.
