Bordeaux's Mathieu Debuchy to miss Euro 2016 due to thigh injury

Mathieu Debuchy will not be part of France's Euro 2016 squad after Bordeaux confirmed he has suffered another injury setback.

It had already been doubtful that Debuchy, 30, would be included in the Les Bleus squad, which will be announced by Didier Deschamps on Thursday evening.

But Bordeaux coach Ulrich Rame has revealed that the right-back -- on loan at the Ligue 1 club from Arsenal -- has suffered a recurrence of a right thigh injury that had kept him out between Feb. 19 and April 10.

"Unfortunately he won't compete at the Euros," Rame is quoted as saying by L'Equipe.

Debuchy joined Bordeux from the Gunners in a loan deal at the end of the winter transfer window, stating that he was keen to leave for regular football to bolster his chances of playing at Euro 2016.

The defender has been plagued by injuries in recent years, also spending extended spells on the sidelines at Arsenal due to shoulder and ankle problems.

Lyon's Christiophe Jallet could now provide back-up for Manchester City's Bacary Sagna at right-back in the France squad, although Lille's Sebastien Corchia could a surprise alternative.

Hosts France have been drawn in Group A at Euro 2016 alongside Albania, Romania and Switzerland.
