Man City's Vincent Kompany recovery on track - Belgium team doctor

Manchester City defender Vincent Kompany is on schedule with his recovery despite concerns about his latest injury setback, according to Belgium team doctor Kris van Crombrugge.

Kompany, 29, has been out of action since limping off with a calf strain in the 4-1 victory over Sunderland on Dec. 26.

The injury has been a recurring problem for Kompany over the past few seasons and he has made just 12 appearances for the Sky Blues this season.

City boss Manuel Pellegrini told a news conference that he was unsure when the City captain would be able to return.

But Van Crombrugge told Belgian newspaper La Derniere Heure that he expects Kompany to return in February and to play a full part at Euro 2016 with Belgium.

"Originally six weeks of inactivity were anticipated. We're two weeks in so it's on course -- especially if we add two more weeks as a precaution," he said.

"On the basis of the current medical analysis, Kompany's European Championship is not in danger."

City have suffered without Kompany's presence and the club's medical department are working to find a long-term solution to the problem with his latest setback being the 13th time he had suffered a calf injury since he joined the club in August 2008.

A return in February would see him back in time for the resumption of Champions League football and City's round-of-16 clash with Dynamo Kiev.
