Lukas Podolski looking to bounce back in Euro 2016 qualifier against Scotland

Germany attacker Lukas Podolski was disappointed to lose 4-2 to Argentina but says the world champions are ready to get back to winning ways against Scotland.

Germany's 18-game unbeaten run came to an end in Dusseldorf on Wednesday when they were hammered by Argentina in a rematch of the 2014 World Cup final won by Joachim Low's men in July.

Podolski, 29, earned his 117th cap when he came on for injured Schalke midfielder Julian Draxler in the first half. But the Arsenal player could not turn the tide as goals from Sergio Aguero, Erik Lamela, Federico Fernandez and Angel Di Maria gave Argentina a thoroughly deserved victory.

The defeat came just four days before Germany host Scotland in their opening Euro 2016 qualifier.

"Our target was to win this game," Podolski said. "The key point was that we had, I think, 15 shots; scored two goals. Argentina had five shots; scored four goals.

"Now our focus is on Sunday -- this is the important game. But of course we are not happy to lose against Argentina, 4-2."

Podolski singled out Di Maria as the major factor in Argentina's win and he backed Manchester United's 59.7 million pound record signing to eventually come good in England.

"It's a different league but, with his quality, of course," he said. "He's an amazing player so always the quality comes out."

With several senior players set to return to the team after Wednesday's friendly, Germany will hope to bounce back from the defeat against Argentina when they take on Scotland in Dortmund.

"They don't have [Lionel] Messi or [Cristiano] Ronaldo -- they are strong as a team," Podolski said of Gordon Strachan's side. "They fight as a team and it's important for us to fight as well against them."

Germany are strong favourites to top a qualifying group that also includes the Republic of Ireland, Poland, Georgia and Gibraltar. The world champions will be expected to challenge for the Euro 2016 title in France but Podolski refused to tempt fate, saying: "First we must qualify and then we can speak afterwards about the European Championship."
