Spain beat Ukraine, England ease past Lithuania in Euro 2016 qualifiers

Alvaro Morata scored his first international goal as Spain beat Ukraine 1-0 in their European Championship Group C qualifier on Friday.

The goal came just moments after one of Ukraine's best chances of the game, when Ruslan Rotan found himself in space but fired wide.

Morata then took a through pass from Koke and fought off a stiff shoulder-to-shoulder challenge from defender Yevhen Khacheridi before chipping over goalkeeper Andriy Pyatov in the 28th minute.

The Juventus striker, 22, found the net in just his third appearance for Spain.

Rotan had chances to equalise in the second half but was denied by Spain keeper Iker Casillas.

Slovakia remained group leaders after beating Luxembourg 3-0, while Belarus fought back to win 2-1 away to Macedonia.

Harry Kane made an instant impact as England maintained their 100 percent record in Group E with a 4-0 victory over Lithuania.

England, who had named in-form Tottenham striker Kane on the bench, should have been ahead inside four minutes as Fabian Delph released Wayne Rooney with a ball over the top of the defence, but the captain struck the inside of the post.

The Manchester United forward did not need long to make amends, though, heading home after Lithuania keeper Giedrius Arlauskis had parried a Danny Welbeck shot into his path.

Rooney then saw another effort come back off the crossbar and, although Lithuania also had occasional chances, England went in 2-0 up at the break when Welbeck's header was deflected into the net.

In the second half, England increased their lead when Raheem Sterling turned in a Rooney cross for his first international goal, and on 73 minutes Kane headed home just 80 seconds after coming off the bench.

Switzerland remain outside the automatic qualifying spots at the halfway point in Group E despite a comfortable 3-0 victory over Estonia.

First-half goals from Fabian Schar and Granit Xhaka and Haris Seferovic's 80th-minute strike, all coming from Xherdan Shaqiri assists, helped the Swiss claim their third successive victory of the campaign.

Slovenia, meanwhile, eased to a 6-0 win at home to San Marino, with Borussia Dortmund's Kevin Kampl among the scorers.

Two Zlatan Ibrahimovic goals gave Sweden a 2-0 win over Moldova in Group G to strengthen his team's hopes of qualifying.

Ibrahimovic's 46th-minute opener was a gift from Moldovan goalkeeper Ilie Cebanu, who hit his clearance straight at the Sweden striker. Ibrahimovic reacted quickly to head the ball into the open net from just outside the area, and then added his second from the penalty spot in the 84th.

Sweden stay second in Group G, four points behind Austria, who strolled to a 5-0 win over Liechtenstein.

In the same group, Russia's match at Montenegro was abandoned in the 67th minute.

Russian goalkeeper Igor Akinfeev appeared to be struck by a flare fired from the stands in the opening minute and, while the match resumed, the players later walked off following a further crowd disturbance.
