Euro 2016: Arjen Robben stars for Netherlands, Italy-Croatia draw

Croatia clinched a vital 1-1 draw against Italy in a heated 2016 European qualifier that was delayed in both halves as fans threw missiles onto the pitch.

Antonio Candreva put the hosts ahead in the 11th minute when he scored his first international goal, but Croatia's Ivan Perisic equalised four minutes later.

The encounter at the San Siro was temporarily stopped in both halves by Dutch referee Bjorn Kuipers after visiting fans threw fireworks and smoke bombs onto the pitch.

The outcome has left the two sides level on 10 points at the top of Group H after four games with both teams having gone into the encounter on the back of three straight wins in qualifying.

Netherlands returned to winning ways on the road to Euro 2016 as Arjen Robben starred during an emphatic 6-0 victory over Latvia.

Robin van Persie headed the hosts ahead after just six minutes after a fine cross from Robben, though Guus Hiddink lost Manchester United midfielder Daley Blind to an injury 20 minutes in.

The departure of Blind did not affect the Dutch though as Robben fired in a superb long-range effort on 35 minutes, before Klaas-Jan Huntelaar poached another three minutes before the interval.

The impressive Robben tormented the visitors throughout, hitting the woodwork with a free kick 12 minutes after the restart before narrowly shooting wide nine minutes later.

The Dutch finally got their fourth 14 minutes from the end as Jeffrey Bruma netted from close range after Van Persie's headed flick from a corner, while Robben added a fifth with a trademark strike into the near corner from the right of the area.

Huntelaar scored his second of the match and his 38th international goal with a minute to go, overtaking Arsenal legend Dennis Bergkamp to become Netherlands' third-highest goalscorer of all time.

Wales kept their dreams of automatic qualification on course as they consolidated their lead in Group B by holding World Cup quarterfinalists Belgium to a 0-0 draw in Brussels.

The hosts were dominant in the first half as Nicolas Lombaerts saw an effort flash off the post while Welsh goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey was on form to deny Nacer Chadli, though Gareth Bale also went close for the visitors after drawing a fine save from Thibaut Courtois.

The Real Madrid forward then sent an effort just wide of Courtois' goal on 57 minutes while Belgium continued to push for a breakthrough, though Wales held on through dogged defending at the death as they cleared the ball off the line in the sixth minute of injury time to snatch a point.

The Czech Republic maintained their 100 percent record in Euro 2016 qualifying while condemning Iceland to a first defeat of the campaign with a 2-1 win in Plzen.

Iceland had stunned Holland with a 2-0 win last time out and looked set to continue their good run of form when Ragnar Sigurdsson headed them into the lead after nine minutes.

But Pavel Kaderabek equalised in first-half stoppage-time and a mistake from goalkeeper Hannes Thor Halldorsson contributed to a Jon Dadi Bodvarsson own-goal which allowed the home side to open up a three-point lead at the top of the group.

Omer Damari scored his fifth goal in three European Championship qualifying matches as Israel claimed a 3-0 win over 10-man Bosnia-Herzegovina on Sunday night.

Gil Vermouth opened the scoring for Israel with a powerful shot from just outside of the box before Damari netted on the stroke of half-time to leave Bosnia reeling.

Eran Zahavi added the third in the 70th minite after Toni Sunjic had been sent off early in the second period for bringing down Damari.

The result means Israel have won all three of their opening games in qualifying and moved to the top of Group B following the win.

Turkey beat Kazakhstan 3-1 for their first win in Euro 2016 qualifying Group A.

Burak Yilmaz's first-half brace, including a penalty, put the home side in control and Serdar Aziz headed the third.

Kazakhstan netted a penalty of their own through Samat Smakov and had a couple more chances in the closing stages but Turkey held on.

Giorgios Efrem made history by scoring a hat trick as Cyprus got their qualifying campaign back on track with a 5-0 triumph over Andorra.

Giorgios Merkis put the Cypriots on their way in the ninth minute with his first international goal before Efrem doubled the lead on the half-hour mark.

The APOEL midfielder scored his second before the interval and made it 4-0 in the second half to become the first player to score three goals in a single game for his country.

Dimitris Christofi completed the rout three minutes from time when he converted a penalty.

Havard Nordtveit's header was enough to earn Norway their third successive Group H victory as they edged Azerbaijan 1-0 in Baku.

The visitors started brightly and the pressure told after 25 minutes as Nordtveit got up to power in Stefan Johansen's corner.

The win sees Norway go level on points with group leaders Italy and Norway, who face each other later on Sunday evening.

Bulgaria's hopes of progressing from Euro 2016 qualifying Group H suffered a potentially significant blow as they were held 1-1 at home by minnows Malta in a match the hosts dominated in Sofia.

Having lost their last two games since opening with a win against Azerbaijan, Bulgaria would have been desperate for a victory and they looked on course to do that after taking an early lead through Andrey Galabinov.

However, after failing to make the most of various opportunities, Bulgaria were pegged back when Malta - without a goal in almost a year and previously pointless in Group H - drew level through Clayton Failla's penalty just after half-time.
