LIVERPOOL -- Everton manager Sam Allardyce has praised referee Jon Moss for his decision to discuss the awarding of penalty with his assistant during Liverpool's controversial draw with Tottenham Hotspur last weekend.
When Harry Kane was awarded a penalty during the second half of the 2-2 draw at Anfield last Sunday, Moss went over to the sideline to discuss with linesman, Eddie Smart, whether the Spurs striker was offside in the build-up.
The conversation was picked up by a pitch-side microphone and Moss was heard asking fourth official Martin Atkinson, via his headset, if he "got anything from TV."
The referee, who would later admitted that the request to Atkinson was "misguided," is back on Merseyside again this weekend as he takes charge of Everton's game with Crystal Palace at Goodison Park.
"I think he chose to do the right thing and talk it out and then come to the decision," Allardyce said of Moss at a news conference on Thursday. "Whether that decision was right or wrong, only him and his bosses have to discuss that and come to the conclusion on where and when.
"I think that the only thing is that they didn't do was cover their mouth like everybody says you've got to these days because the camera goes so close and listens."
Meanwhile, this will be the first time Allardyce faces Crystal Palace since he decided to leave his post at Selhurst Park in May 2017.
Palace replaced Allardyce with Frank de Boer until he was five games into the season, with the club languishing in the relegation zone at that point.
Roy Hodgson is in charge of the London club now and the former England manager's arrival has sparked an upturn in form that sees the Eagles currently 14th in the Premier League table.
"It's a great turnaround from Roy and the lads, but it was always in the players and Roy has managed to bring it out of them," Allardyce said.
"It's more or less the same players, I think, that I had. I think there's only [Timothy] Fosu-Mensah that's playing in the team that wasn't there when I was there."
