STOKE -- Jose Mourinho refused to shake Mark Hughes' hand at the end of his side's 2-2 draw at the bet 365 Stadium because the Stoke manager tried to get the Manchester United boss sent off, sources have told ESPN FC. Mourinho did not acknowledge Hughes after the final whistle, with Hughes suggesting afterwards the Portuguese coach had "reacted badly to a negative result." But sources say that Mourinho was incensed Hughes had asked referee Neil Swarbrick to send him to the stands after Mourinho had entered into the home technical area before telling the United boss to "f--- off." Mourinho, who did shake hands with the rest of the Stoke backroom staff, had been trying to relay instructions to his players but was pushed by Hughes after crossing into the area in front of the Stoke bench. Mourinho refused to discuss the bust-up in his postmatch news conference but walked out of a BBC interview after insisting he had not instigated the altercation. He said: "I prefer not to answer the question because your question is a bad question. Because it looks like is my fault, is my problem. "And your question is not correct, I am sorry. I don't speak about stupid things, I'm too old for that, talking about stupid things is for stupid people." Hughes then accused Mourinho of being a sore loser in his postmatch news conference. He said: "I pushed him because he was in my technical area. Maybe that is why he didn't want to shake my hand. "It has to be viewed as a negative result for him. Sometimes managers of top six clubs don't take negative results too kindly. "Maybe he reacted in the wrong way. In fairness I have my history with handshakes. Maybe it's me."
