Eden Hazard critical of Charly Musonda's Belgium under-21 snub

Eden Hazard has criticised Chelsea teammate and compatriot Charly Musonda for rejecting the chance to team up with Belgium's under-21 squad, suggesting it would have helped the youngster establish himself at Stamford Bridge.

While Hazard, who has yet to play a competitive game this season after breaking an ankle in June, jetted into his home country to prepare for the senior team's upcoming World Cup qualifiers, Musonda told the Belgian FA he would not be doing the same for the U21's Euro 2019 encounter with Turkey.

Musonda, 20, who made his sole Premier League appearance to date in added time of the opening-day defeat to Burnley this season, had stayed in London to "sort out his situation with Chelsea," according to the Belgian FA.

Musonda's U21 boss Johan Walem refused to be drawn on the subject, but Hazard had stern words for Musonda, who spent last season on loan at Real Betis.

"I don't know the reason for him not coming to the U21s. However, he should have come, even if he didn't want to," Hazard told Belgian media. "In my five years there, no young player has come through at Chelsea."

Nathan Ake, Nathaniel Chalobah and Bertrand Traore are all youngsters who have left Chelsea on permanent deals this summer after failing to hold down a first-team place.
