Sunderland lose appeal against Sebastian Larsson red card vs. United

Sunderland have lost their appeal against the sending off of Sebastian Larsson in the defeat to Manchester United, meaning he will serve a three-match ban.

Larsson was dismissed just before the break for a challenge on Ander Herrera as United won 3-0 at the Stadium of Light.

Craig Pawson's decision infuriated manager David Moyes, whose side are bottom of the Premier League and 10 points adrift of safety.

Moyes said: "He gets the ball, he touches the ball. There's no contact at all, so it's not even a booking. I didn't think it was a good decision.''

But the FA announced that the sending off had been upheld, saying in a statement: "An Independent Regulatory Commission has rejected a wrongful dismissal claim from Sunderland's Sebastian Larsson.

"The midfielder was dismissed for serious foul play during the Black Cats' Premier League fixture against Manchester United.

"Larsson's three-match suspension remains in place."
