Chelsea go six points clear, Liverpool move up to second, Man United win

Chelsea recorded their 10th consecutive Premier League victory with a 1-0 defeat of Sunderland at the Stadium of Light on Wednesday to move six points clear at the top of the table.

Cesc Fabregas scored the only goal of the game towards the end of the first half, shaping his low strike just out of Jordan Pickford's reach after a well-worked one-two with Willian found him free inside the box.

Willian could have doubled the Blues' lead after the break, but his deflected shot hit the crossbar, while Thibaut Courtois was called into action to prevent a Sunderland equaliser late on, saving Patrick van Aanholt's effort.

Chelsea's 10 straight victories equals their best sequence of league wins within a single season.

Liverpool took maximum points at the Riverside Stadium, scoring three unanswered goals and keeping a clean sheet for the first time in three games to see off hosts Middlesbrough with a 3-0 win to move up to second.

Adam Lallana put visiting Liverpool in front in the 29th minute, rising to meet a Nathaniel Clyne cross and powering a header past Boro's Victor Valdes.

Origi made it two on the hour mark, finishing off a well-worked team move by slotting home from close range following a Lallana assist for his fifth goal in Liverpool's last five matches.

And Lallana put the match away in the 68th minute with Origi now the provider for the England international to smash home from six yards out to make it three.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic's late goal helped Manchester United avoid yet another Premier League draw and win 2-1 at Crystal Palace.

Paul Pogba scored to give United the lead late in the first half, tapping home from close range after Ibrahimovic redirected Juan Mata's free kick. The goal was not without controversy, though, as Ibrahimovic may have used his arm to get the ball to Pogba, who also was adjudged to be barely onside.

James McArthur found the equaliser for Palace after being played in by Damien Delaney's magnificent one-touch backheeled pass at the top of the box.

What would have been a Premier League-leading seventh draw of the season was on the cards for United before Pogba played in Ibrahimovic, who scored from a tight angle to secure all three points.

Manchester City recorded their first home win in the league since September with a 2-0 victory over Watford.

City took the lead just after the half-hour mark at the Etihad Stadium through Pablo Zabaleta, with the Argentine on hand to volley home Kevin De Bruyne's delivery into the box.

The hosts, who lost Ilkay Gundogan to injury, could have doubled their lead after the break as Raheem Sterling burst towards goal, but his strike cannoned back off the crossbar.

Watford piled the pressure on as they went in search of an equaliser, but Etienne Capoue and Odion Ighalo both wasted late chances for the visitors, before David Silva made sure of the points with an 86th-minute goal for City.

Christian Eriksen scored a brace as Tottenham Hotspur disposed of Hull City with a 3-0 victory.

Eriksen opened the scoring for Spurs inside 14 minutes with a strike into the back of the net after Danny Rose had raced down the left and squared the ball into his path.

And the Denmark international then added another in the second half, tapping in from close range after being teed up by a pass from Kyle Walker, before Victor Wanyama completed the scoring with a simple finish.

Stoke City and Southampton played out a goalless draw at the bet365 Stadium with the hosts being reduced to 10 men after Marko Arnautovic's sending off.

Stoke got off to a bad start, losing Arnautovic to a straight red card after 23 minutes following a late challenge on Sofiane Boufal from the Austria international.

Southampton pushed forward in search of a winner as the second half progressed, but Lee Grant was able to thwart a Ryan Bertrand effort, while Jay Rodriguez missed for the visitors from close range.

West Ham United moved four points clear of the relegation zone thanks to a 1-0 win over Burnley at the London Stadium.

West Ham broke the deadlock on the stroke of half-time when Mark Noble converted a rebound after first seeing his penalty saved by Tom Heaton following Ben Mee's foul on Winston Reid.

Burnely had chances to equalise in the second half with Sam Vokes heading a rebound over the bar and Scott Arfield later being denied by Darren Randolph, but the hosts were able to hold out for the victory.

West Bromwich Albion moved up to seventh in the table after a Salomon Rondon hat trick fired them to a 3-1 victory at home to Swansea City.

West Brom were the more dominant team in the first half and were rewarded for their pressure shortly after the break when Rondon headed in from six yards out after connecting with Matt Phillips' free kick into the box.

Rondon soon made it two for the Baggies, doubling their lead with a header at the back post, before completing his hat trick just two minutes later with yet another header to beat Lukasz Fabianski. Wayne Routledge pulled one back late on for Swansea but it proved to be just a consolation strike.
