Manchester United's Warren Joyce confirmed as new Wigan manager

Manchester United under-21 manager Warren Joyce has been confirmed as Wigan Athletic's new manager.

ESPN FC reported last week Wigan were in talks with highly rated coach Joyce about replacing the sacked Gary Caldwell at the DW Stadium, and sources confirmed earlier on Wednesday that a deal had been agreed.

Joyce is set to be in charge for the first time against Reading this weekend.

The 51-year-old Joyce has been at Manchester United since 2008 and managed the U21 side along with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer before taking sole charge in December 2010, guiding them to their third U21 Premier League title in four seasons last term.

The former Hull City player-manager helped develop Paul Pogba, Marcus Rashford, Jesse Lingard and Danny Welbeck for United's first team in his role as reserve team boss

Joyce has been considering moving back into senior management for some time and was interviewed for the Blackburn Rovers job last summer.

Wigan have now turned to Joyce to transform their fortunes and try and secure their status in the Championship with the club currently second from bottom of the table.
