Man United-Liverpool UK's most watched Prem game in 3 years - report

Liverpool and Manchester United may have played to a boring draw but the match was the most watched Premier League game in the United Kingdom in nearly three years, according to a report.

An average of 2.8 million people tuned in to watch what Sky Sports dubbed "Red Monday," according to Daily Telegraph sources.

The first encounter between Jose Mourinho and Jurgen Klopp since the former became United boss this summer drew the biggest audience for a Premier League game since United beat Arsenal 1-0 in November 2013, the newspaper said.

The peak audience of 3.1 million was also the largest since Chelsea beat Liverpool 2-0 to Chelsea in May 2014.

According to the report, Sky's league ratings had been down 19 percent prior to this month's international break. The dip, coming on the heels of a new £4.2 billion deal, had been due to competition from the Olympics and Paralympic broadcasts.

The match also averaged a million more UK viewers than Sky's next most watched Premier League match this season, which was the Manchester derby in September and had 1.7 million viewers, the paper said.
