Tottenham's Mauricio Pochettino: Not 'my moment' to take England job

Mauricio Pochettino says he is not interested in filling the current England vacancy, but has not ruled out taking charge of the England national team later in his career.

The Tottenham manager was talking to the assembled media at Friday's news conference ahead of the top of the table clash with Manchester City. And when asked whether he was interested in taking the England job -- vacated by Sam Allardyce this week -- the Spurs boss politely declined.

"Yes, why not? In the future, future," Pochettino said. "Not now, it's impossible. I signed a new contract, a five-year contract, here. It's not my moment. Not only for England, but for Argentina, too."

Pochettino's Tottenham squad are second in the Premier League going into the latest round of matches, starting strongly in their attempts to repeat last season's third-place finish.

England internationals Harry Kane, Dele Alli, Eric Dier, Danny Rose and Kyle Walker have all been instrumental in Spurs' recent upturn in fortunes, but Pochettino insists that it is important that he keeps his players focused on the matter in hand before next week's international fixtures.

"They need to be focused on us, on Tottenham, and then we'll see," Pochettino said. "They are very focused on playing against Manchester City.

"It's true the FA is in a difficult moment now, finding another manager responsible for managing English football. The players need to be out of that situation, focused on playing, and then if they find the man that needs to manage, select the players, then they need to be available and be focused on England duty.

"Today, they need to be away and be focused on the last [league] game before that period."

Pochettino is not the only Premier League manager to comment on the position, with his north London neighbour Arsene Wenger saying that he could also be tempted by the role in the future.
