Burnley's Michael Keane confident of playing for top-level team

Michael Keane does not regret missing out on the chance to join Premier League champions Leicester City this summer, even though it offered the opportunity to play Champions League football.

Keane, 23, has impressed since joining Burnley from Manchester United in January 2015 and is also reportedly a target for Chelsea, but the defender is confident he can reach that level in his own time.

"It's flattering when teams like that come in, but I am really happy here," he said. "The fans have been brilliant with me here as have the manager and players.

"I won't be looking at them [Leicester] in the Champions League thinking that it could have been me, because I tend to think what will be, will be. Hopefully at some time in the future I will get to that level anyway. Leicester have done brilliant and I will be supporting them because I was there on loan anyway but I'm not disappointed I am not there."

Keane left United, where he came through the academy alongside Paul Pogba and Jesse Lingard, in search of first-team football. And although he still supports the club he is happy with the decision he made.

"When I was at United I was disappointed not to get too many chances or many games, but coming here was the best decision I ever made," he said.

"I have grown as a player and playing week in week helps you improve so much. And playing in the Premier League helps you become even more comfortable.

"I stay in touch with Paul [Pogba]. I saw him a few weeks back when he came back and I am one of Jesse's [Lingard] best mates. It's good that a lot of that team have kept in touch -- it was a top team, with a great spirit, and every now and again when we can we get together.

"They were good times, coming through the Academy together, but it seems a lifetime ago now and we've done a lot since. I'm a United fan and always will be and to score at Old Trafford would be really special."
