Why Conte's success at Chelsea could hinge on new arrivals

Brendan Rodgers, the former Liverpool boss, once likened the manager job to building an aircraft while it was flying, and Antonio Conte might share that sentiment this week. The Italian overcame West Ham in his Chelsea debut on Monday, but still faces the balancing act of getting results while moulding a squad that remains the footballing equivalent of a construction site. Only when the transfer window shuts on 31 August will he know his best team. Until then, as Chelsea prepare to visit Watford on Saturday, there are signs that Conte is putting in place temporary solutions to stay airborne.
