Southampton, Bournemouth both manage draw with La Liga sides

Oriol Romeu scored against his old club to give Southampton a 1-1 draw with Espanyol in a friendly on Wednesday.

Southampton took the lead on 32 minutes when Romeu flicked home a header following a cross from James Ward-Prowse, but the Catalan side equalised with a Felipe Caicedo penalty after Virgil van Dijk tripped up Leo Baptista.

Benik Afobe's goal helped Bournemouth salvage a 1-1 draw with Valencia.

Enzo Perez had given the Spanish side a 1-0 in the 39th minute with a strong strike, but Bournemouth rallied after the break and found an equaliser on 62 minutes when Afobe tapped home Simon Francis' cross.

Abel Hernandez scored twice as Hull City eased to a 3-1 win over Turkish side Caykur Rizespor.

Despite conceding two minutes into the match, Hull rallied behind Hernandez, who scored a first-half penalty before adding a second goal soon after half-time, while Robert Snodgrass added a third on the half-volley.

Meanwhile, Fellow newly promoted side Middlesbrough managed a 0-0 draw with Udinese.

Among other Italian sides in action on Wednesday, first-half goals from Radja Nainggolan and Edin Dzeko helped Roma to a 2-0 win over Major League Soccer's Montreal Impact. 

Genoa's new signing Diego Laxalt scored in a 4-1 win over Alessandria, with Leonardo Pavoletti, Goran Pandev and Lucas Ocampos also finding the net.

Rey Manaj and Gianluca Caprari scored to give Pescara a 2-1 win at Vicenza, while Sampdoria defeated their academy side 4-0 with goals from Antonio Cassano, Karol Linetty, Luis Muriel and Fabio Quagliarella.

In Spain, Sporting Gijon suffered a 3-0 defeat to Segunda Division side Lugo, while Osasuna also fell 2-1 defeat to second-tier competition against Numancia and Leganes could only manage a 1-1 draw with third-tier Toledo.

Deportivo La Coruna won 3-0 in 45 minutes against Verin before losing to Portguese side Chaves in another half of football.

In Germany, braces from Patrick Herrmann and Djibril Sow delivered a 6-1 win for Borussia Monchengladbach over Hessen Kassel.

Hamburg conceded a goal to familiar foe Jefferson Farfan but rallied to win 5-1 over U.A.E. club Al Jazira thanks to goals from Aaron Hunt, Gian Luca Waldschmidt, Bakery Jatta, Johan Djourou and Michael Gregoritsch

Karim Onisiwo and Pablo De Blasis goals guided Mainz to a 2-1 win over Servette, while Eintracht Frankfurt beat Al Ahli 1-0 thanks to Enis Bunjaki's first-half strike.

Bordeaux won a battle of Ligue 1 sides, defeating Lorient 3-1 with goals from Diego Rolan, Malcom and Valentin Vada before the hosts found a late consolation from Romain Philippoteaux.

Angers also prevailed over league rivals Guingamp 4-3, while Maxime Lopez's late goal gave Marseille a 2-1 win at Girona.
