DeAndre Yedlin: Reports linking return to Sunderland are 'awesome'

Tottenham's DeAndre Yedlin says it's "awesome" to be linked with a return to Sunderland, but the American admits he is still in the dark over his future.

Yedlin spent last season on loan at the Stadium of Light, where the 22-year-old made the right-back spot his own under Sam Allardyce, making 24 appearances, as the Black Cats escaped relegation.

Spurs are well-stocked at right-back with Kyle Walker and Kieran Trippier, and the United States star has been linked with a return to Wearside in a loan or permanent deal.

With Allardyce tipped for the vacant England manager's job and Yedlin still on holiday in the U.S. following his participation in the Copa America Centenario, the situation is unlikely to be resolved soon, but the defender is enthusiastic about playing for Sunderland again.

"I think it's awesome that that's floating around," Yedlin said of the rumours in a Facebook Q&A with his former club, the Seattle Sounders.

"But I haven't heard anything on a deal so it's all kind of up in the air right now.

"I'm just waiting to hear to see what happens and I'm just trying to enjoy it.

"I feel blessed to able to do what I do everyday, so I just try to make the best out of every situation and keep pushing."

There is no relegation in Major League Soccer, where Yedlin spent his career before joining Spurs in January 2015, and he says last season was a new experience for him.

"It's a lot different," he said of Sunderland's successful battle against the drop.

"The people that are fans of those teams have been fans for generations and generations and generations. So the community ties to their teams are so great.

"The pressure of just staying in the league is huge because it means so much to those people.

"It's a lot different to playoffs because every game throughout the whole season matters.

"It was definitely a very interesting experience for me."
