Liverpool confirm Burnley Premier League fixture swap

Liverpool have confirmed their fixtures with Burnley for this Premier League season have been reversed.

The first meeting between the two sides, which was originally set to be held at Anfield, will now be held at Turf Moor on Saturday Aug. 20.

The Reds reportedly approached Burnley asking to switch the fixture due the work being done on the redevelopment of the Main Stand.

The return Premier League clash is now scheduled for Anfield on Sunday March 12.

A statement on Liverpool's official website read: "The expansion of the Main Stand will be ready and open to fans for the start of the Premier League season, but the additional days prior to the first home game provided by this switch is a prudent approach to a project of this scale."

A statement on Burley's website added: "Burnley Football Club can confirm an agreement has been reached with Liverpool Football Club to reverse their two Premier League games for the 2016-17 season.

"Having given this our full consideration, with the full involvement and agreement of manager Sean Dyche, and having secured benefits to the club, we have granted permission for a reversal of the fixtures."

Liverpool's opening game of the season away at Arsenal has been moved to Sunday Aug. 14.
