By the numbers: Spurs' Harry Kane belongs on list of world's best

Harry Kane's brace secured a thrilling win over Borussia Dortmund, with the Wembley curse put to bed by Spurs.
Goalscorers Harry Kane and Son Heung-min sound off on their impressive win over, and the hopeful end of the Wembley curse.

Harry Kane announced himself in Europe with two brilliant goals as Tottenham beat Borussia Dortmund 3-1 in the Champions League at Wembley on Wednesday.

Afterwards, Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino said he hoped Kane would "get the credit he deserves" after his goals in the competition, declaring him "one of the best strikers in the world."

Kane's statistics already compare favourably with the best forwards on the planet, particularly since the start of this calendar year.

ESPN FC took a look at Kane by numbers:

• Kane has scored 29 goals in 27 games across all competitions in 2017, the same number as Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo, but in three fewer appearances.

• Only Barcelona's Lionel Messi (37 in 38 games) and PSG's Edinson Cavani (33 in 34) have scored more club goals than Kane in 2017.

• Only Messi (40), Ronaldo (39) and Bayern Munich's Robert Lewandowski (35) have scored more than Kane's 34 goals for club and country in 2017.

• Kane has scored more goals (34) for club and country in 2017 than in any other calendar year in his career, even though it is only September.

• Kane has been involved in 125 goals in his last 165 games for club and country with 108 goals and 17 assists.

• Kane scored his 100th career goal in Saturday's 3-0 win at Everton, reaching the milestone in 169 games, quicker than Messi (188 games), Arsenal legend Thierry Henry (181), Neymar (177) and Ronaldo (253).

Harry Kane's double against Borussia Dortmund continued his stunning form in front of goal.

• After scoring twice against Dortmund, Kane has 103 Tottenham goals in 170 games, and he has netted 30 times in his past 22 matches for club and country.

• Kane has the best goals-per-game ratio -- 1.07 -- of any player in Europe's big-5 leagues in 2017 in all competitions (minimum 10 goals).

• Kane is the first Englishman since Wayne Rooney in 2010 to score in three consecutive Champions League appearances, after also netting against Monaco and CSKA Moscow last season.

• No player in the Premier League has scored more goals than Kane's 77 since the start of the 2014-15 season. The next highest are Sergio Aguero (72), Romelu Lukaku (57), Alexis Sanchez (53), Diego Costa (52) and Olivier Giroud (43).

• Kane's brace against Dortmund took him to third on the list of the club's all-time top scorers in Europe with 14 goals, behind Martin Chivers (22) and Jermain Defoe (23).
