Russell Slade named as new manager of struggling Coventry City

League One strugglers Coventry City have announced the appointment of former Charlton boss Russell Slade as their new manager.

Slade, who was sacked by Charlton in November after only 16 games in charge, will take charge of Coventry for the first time when they travel to Bristol Rovers on Boxing Day.

The 56-year-old, who has been appointed until the end of the season, has also managed Yeovil, Leyton Orient and Cardiff City.

In a statement on their official website, Coventry said they were "delighted to announce that Russell Slade will take over as Coventry City manager with immediate effect."

The club's Technical Director, Mark Venus, said: "We are pleased to have secured the services of a highly-rated manager who has experience both at League One level and higher.

"Russell has been at football clubs in challenging circumstances before and has experience of steering them through to safety.

"The club believes that Russell is the right man to take Coventry City forward."
