Joe Thompson, the Rochdale midfielder who has beaten cancer twice in the past six years, has been forced to retire at the age of 29 after admitting that he has pushed his body to the "absolute limit."

Ferguson, 46, will oversee the League One side's final 17 games.

U.S. youth Charlie Kelman scores from own half in pro debut in England

United States youth international Charlie Kelman scored from inside his own half on his professional debut in England.

Playing for Southend in the third-tier League One, Kelman lobbed the Plymouth goalkeeper in the second minute of stoppage time. But it wasn't enough to prevent Southend losing 3-2 on Saturday.

Manager Chris Powell says Kelman "was a real livewire for us and obviously he's scored a wonderful goal."

It evoked memories of David Beckham's strike for Manchester United from the halfway...

There were media reports that some Championship clubs were against the deal and Leeds United owner Andrea Radrizzani had talked of a possible breakaway 'Premier League 2', but after a board meeting on Monday the EFL decided to accept the package from Sky Sports,...

Blackpool manager Gary Bowyer steps down after one game

Blackpool manager Gary Bowyer has stepped down after one game of the new season, the League One side said on Monday.

Blackpool began their campaign with a 0-0 draw at Wycombe Wanderers on Saturday, but Bowyer will not be in charge of this weekend's match in a league fixture at home against Portsmouth.

His assistant Terry McPhillips will take charge of the club on an interim basis.

Bowyer, 47, took charge of Blackpool in 2016 after the club were relegated to League Two and secured immediate promotion...
