Richard Wood proved to be captain marvel as he scored twice to give Rotherham a 2-1 victory in the League One play-off final against Shrewsbury and send them back to the Championship.

Wood, whose first-half goal was cancelled out by Alex Rodman, bundled home his second in the first half of extra time to give the Millers a deserved win at Wembley.

Rotherham's hopes of bouncing straight back to the Sky Bet Championship remain alive after they booked their place in the League One play-off final with a 2-0 win over Scunthorpe in the semi-final second leg.

The Millers, relegated from the second tier last year, triumphed 4-2 on aggregate after goals either side of half-time by Richard Wood and Will Vaulks at the New York Stadium.

That sets up a showpiece date at Wembley against Shrewsbury on May 27, with boss Paul Warne coming up against his former...

Shrewsbury booked another Wembley appearance by beating Charlton 1-0 in the second leg of the League One play-off semi-final.

Carlton Morris, the on-loan Norwich striker, scored the winner just before the hour mark to secure a 2-0 aggregate victory for the team that finished the season in third.

Paul Hurst's side, who were beaten by Lincoln at the national stadium in last month's Checkatrade Trophy final, will meet Rotherham or Scunthorpe at Wembley on May 27.
