Bournemouth loan striker Benik Afobe to Wolverhampton

Benik Afobe has returned to Wolves on loan from Bournemouth until the end of the season.

The striker completed a late deal on deadline day to boost the Championship leaders' attacking options.

Wolves are 11 points clear at the top of the table and host Sheffield United on Saturday.

Sporting director Kevin Thelwell said: "We're delighted to have Benik back.

"He's a player we know very [well], he's really capable of playing at this level and capable of taking us to the next level, and the frontline becomes more and more exciting.

"It's all about trying to find players who are going to improve who we are and what we do, and in Benik Afobe we've found just that.

"He has a massive affinity with the fans. He's got a massive affinity with the football club, and would probably argue it's his first love, even though he spent a lot of time at Arsenal.

"I think he recognises what's going on at the club and wants to be a part of it, and we've got him in to be part of the final promotion push.''

Afobe has made just five Premier League starts for Bournemouth this season and was behind Callum Wilson, Jermain Defoe and Josh King in the pecking order.

He left Wolves for the south coast for £10 million in 2016 after a successful 12 months at Molineux.

Afobe scored 23 goals for Wolves between 2015 and 2016 after joining from Arsenal for £2m.

He has netted 11 times in 70 outings for Bournemouth.
