Brighton hit impasse in negotiations with goalkeeper David Stockdale

Goalkeeper David Stockdale looks set to leave Brighton & Hove Albion after contract talks broke down, sources have told ESPN FC.

Stockdale is out of contract at Brighton next month and talks over a new deal have reportedly reached an impasse, sources say.

The goalkeeper was hugely influential in Brighton's successful promotion to the Premier League and it comes as a surprise that they have not struck a deal to keep hold of him.

The 31-year-old kept 20 clean sheets as Brighton finished runners-up to Newcastle in the Championship and he was named in the PFA Championship team of the season.

Stockdale is regarded as one of the best goalkeepers in the country after impressing at Brighton for the past three years and he has been included in England squads in the past without winning a cap.

News of Stockdale's contract situation is sure to alert a number of clubs to his availability on a free transfer.

Chelsea were credited with an interest in Stockdale during the January transfer window, while Crystal Palace and Watford are also looking for goalkeeping reinforcements this summer.
