Kyle Lafferty charged by FA over alleged betting misconduct

Norwich City and Northern Ireland striker Kyle Lafferty has been charged with misconduct by the Football Association after allegedly betting on a game.

"It is alleged that on 20 February 2016, the Norwich City forward placed a bet on the result, progress, conduct or any other aspect of, or occurrence in, a football match or competition in breach of FA Rule E8," an official statement read.

Lafferty was sent out on loan by relegated Norwich to Birmingham City for the last few months of the 2015-16 Premier League season.

Lafferty fell out of favour at Norwich last season and is expecting to move to another club later this summer. He made just three appearances for Norwch last season and after being linked with a move to Leeds among other clubs, joined Birmingham on loan in March.

The striker spearheaded Northern Ireland's qualification campaign for the Euro 2016 Championship before featuring for the team at the tournament as they reached the round of 16.

The player has a week to respond to the FA charge.

Norwich declined to comment when approached by Press Association Sport.
